Jacob's Ladder

August has kicked off with more of those crepuscular ray evenings.

I notice that one of the colloquial names for this phenomenon is 'Jacob's Ladder', which is coincidentally the name of a track by Rush, a Canadian rock band, whose music is often entwined with happenings at Tense Towers*.

'Jacob's Ladder' is featured on their Permanent Waves album, along with 'Natural Sciences' which popped up in the Comments section of a recent blogpost, thanks to some prompting by fellow blogger Mark.

Lyrics for Jacob's Ladder.

* Most evenings, just after ten past nine, do you notice that it's 2112? No? Just me, then.

Hi Mr Tense

''follow men's eyes as they look to the skies. The shifting shafts of shining weave the fabric of their dreams''

A superlative piece of music Mr T. Loved your allusion to 2112!

Always enjoy your writings, short clipped and pithy. Maybe I could learn from that.B.t.w 'Caress of steel' is an unbelievably underrated album.

Toodles,Mark.

I only have Caress of Steel on vinyl, so sadly it doesn't receive the airings it should. Over the years, Neil Peart has been such a wordsmith, his lyrics making you think ('Territories' from Power Windows hits the spot for me) and marvel at his punning ("All those wounds that I can't get unwound" from Time Stand Still).

This evening, Our Lass was out, so I had a boy's night in on my own. My task for tonight was to convert some Excel tables into Word tables. This endeavour was helped greatly by the inclusion of a pint of Dark Island and the Signals album at a very respectable volume. 'The Weapon' is a favourite of mine.
