Meh!

Found on the underside of the lid of our 'green waste' recycling bin this afternoon, on the day after Our Lass had filled the bin with trimmings from the garden.

Enoplognatha ovato, apparently. And the bluish-green egg sac is definitely hers, according to my ID guide.

Despite my lack of spider empathy, I have to be a bit impressed with the red stripes!

Never seen one of those before.
Maybe the stripes make it run faster?

That's one colourful spider - reminds me of Barbara Cartland holding court, with the vivid red war paint and fluffy cushions - just needs a bit of bling on those arms...

Isn't it amazing how some animals can make egg-material that's larger than they are?

Wow, THAT is a beautiful spider! And not what I expected to see in a post named "Meh!" (one of my fav. words ever). Lovely!

Keith, good point. There's a bit of Starsky & Hutch's Ford Torino in there!

Phil, that is one huge imaginative leap! I may never look at a fluffy cushion in quite the same way ever again.

Katie, I'm guessing that she devoured plenty of smaller invertebrates on the way to creating all the energy to achieve that. Am trying not to wonder if one of them was her husband :o(

bb, you'll have guessed by now that I'm not a huge fan of spiders. And whilst I'm not from the 'meh' generation, it did neatly sum up my initial reaction upon opening the bin lid. Still, that red just had to be posted!

Calm down, man! How many cans have you drunk?
